bittymacbeth has teamed up with Soulfest alumna Dru Chen to produce an infectious funk anthem, Haters Gon’ Hate. The single and music video (MV) for Haters Gon’ Hate will be released as follows:

  • 27 November - single will be available on iTunes, Deezer, Amazon Music and other digital sales and streaming platforms

  • 28 November - physical single and MV launch party at Hood Bar and Cafe at 7pm, with live screening of the MV

  • 29 November - bandwagon.sg exclusive online premiere of MV.

21-year-old bittymacbeth, whose real name is Beth Yap, wrote the song as a call to conversation and thus understanding. She says in the song that it's easy to judge and side with the bullies, but "we can do better // why discriminate // when we can come together”.

On the collaboration with Dru, Beth says the two connected via Instagram after Dru watched a slap bass cover video she posted. Dru later extended an offer to collaborate with her on her full-length debut album, Beauty For Ashes.

The album - produced with the support of National Arts Council - comprises tunes completely written and arranged by bittymacbeth, including Haters Gon’ Hate. The single not only features Beth’s bass and vocal chops and Dru’s production prowess, but also the musicianship of rising stars from the jazz and soul scene, including drummer Aaron Lee (The Steve McQueens) and NAzty Keys (The Good Life Project, 53A, Gentle Bones).

At her Haters Gon’ Hate single and MV launch, Beth will perform tunes off the album, combining live-looping and a live band comprising sampler Evan Low (producer, Letters to Ubin - Inch Chua) and Joash Edelstein, who reached out as a fan via e-mail expressing his interest to play for Beth.
